Why Montessori?

In education through exploration and discovery, with concrete, hands-on materials the Montessori approach embeds creativity and problem solving in each child’s attitude to their own learning. Every day children have the opportunities for both independent and cooperative work, giving them exposure to teamwork, leadership and concentrated self-study.

The Montessori classroom gives respect for the individual child and recognition of individual learning styles and paces. Respect for each child as a competent learner, and trust in the child’s basic desire to learn are foremost in the Montessori curriculum.

Personalised programmes of study for each child allows non-competitive work which compares only to the child’s previous work. Study that is lead from the child’s own interests, combining topics and subject areas gives the child an awareness of the connectedness of each subject.

The balance of freedom and responsibility in the classroom (freedom within structure) gives children a focused and disciplined approach to their learning, an approach that will stay with them for life.
The Montessori curriculum is a holistic approach to education with social and learning environments designed to help children feel good about who they are and what they have the power to accomplish.
